The specifics — what time to arrive, which identification is accepted, what you may carry in, where to park — come from the confirmation the certifying organization sends you. Read it properly when it arrives, not in the car park. This article is the rest of it.
The week before
- Read the confirmation and check the address. Test centres are not always where you assume.
- Check the identification requirements and make sure the name on your ID matches the name on your application. A mismatch is a wasted trip.
- If you are testing online proctored, run the equipment check.
- Sit at least one full-length timed practice exam end to end, without pausing. Knowing the material and being able to hold your nerve for the whole paper are two different skills.
On the day
- Leave early. There is no version of this where arriving in a rush helps.
- Expect to be checked in and to store your belongings.
- Expect the load chart questions to take the longest. They are worth the same as any other question, so do not let two of them eat the time that fifteen others needed.
How to work the paper
The same habits our practice exams drill:
- Read the whole question first, including every line of the crane's set-up. A skipped word — "side" instead of "front", a boom length you did not check — is how the wrong answer gets picked by somebody who knew the material.
- Work the chart problems on paper. Write down the gross capacity, then one deduction per line, then the total. Deductions kept in your head are deductions that go missing.
- Answer everything. A blank scores the same as a wrong answer.
- Do not re-open settled questions unless you have a concrete reason. Second-guessing costs more marks than it saves.
Where we fit in. We are an independent training provider. We prepare you for the written examination and can walk you through the application and booking process. We do not write the exams, administer the written or practical exams, or issue certifications, and passing our courses is not certification. See our training and safety disclaimer.
