Certification has costs that are nothing to do with your subscription here. You pay them directly to the certifying organization, and to whichever test site runs your practical. None of this money comes to us.
The published exam fees
For the mobile crane operator program, effective 1 January 2024:
- Core written exam — $140
- Specialty written exam — $80 each
- Practical exam — $70 per specialty
So a candidate taking Core plus one specialty pays $290 in exam fees. A second specialty adds another $80 written and another $70 practical.
These match CCO's fee page as of 15 October 2026. Check it for the current figures before you budget, because fees can change.
What sits outside those fees
- The test site's own charge for the practical. The $70 is the exam fee. The site charges separately for the crane and the examiner's time, and this varies a lot by area. Ask before you book.
- Retakes. Failing an exam means paying that exam's fee again.
- Travel to the test centre and the practical site.
- Time off work for exam days.
What your subscription here covers
The training that prepares you for the written examination — and nothing else. It is not the examination, it does not pay your exam fees, and it does not book your practical. The current price is on the Subscription page.
Checked September 2026. Fees and requirements are set by the certifying organization and can change — confirm the current ones with them before you apply.
